Get Out, Stay Out

Ski touring has one thing in common with hiking and backpacking — your backpack can make or break your trip. Lucky for you, Deuter made the Freerider 30 Backpack, so you never have to think twice about your ski pack again. Starting with their Alpine Back System, Deuter gave you a comfortable carry with plush padding and a center channel offering a healthy amount of ventilation. 30 liters of storage space gives you plenty of room to stash your extra layers, water, and snacks, while the avalanche tools pocket keeps your shovel and probe handy.

When it comes time to strap your planks to your back, the freerider gives you the option of setting up an A-frame ski carry or vertical snowboard carry, meaning you can easily transition and set the boot pack before anyone else gets to it. Topped off with a back panel zipper for easy gear access, a zippered goggle pocket, and external ice axe loops, you have everything you need to get on the snow and stay there all day long.

X-TEN COLLECTIVE STAFF COMMENT

We love this pack, for its innovative design with improvements to gear storage and overall bag shape design. the bag is taper so that it is narrower at the waist. This is to help improve clearance when hiking/skinning up with poles, allowing for a smoother motion saving energy for the down.
