Some people dream of success…
Welcome to Team Snow Xchange Twenty-Fifteen. This season we have an exciting and growing team with an expanded training programme and competition schedule.
This years’ team consists of some of the most talented young skiers in New Zealand. So whether you’re four or forty, a beginner or a pro join us for some of the most progressive and comprehensive training programmes & you too could be charging the slopes this winter.
Not only do we have the best sponsorship programme in the country we train and mentor all our team riders personally in NZ and abroad. Our programme includes race, freestyle & freeski training on & off the slopes with internationally recognised coaches.
The on-snow portion of the training is based on four intensive weekend camps with a focus on family involvement. This allows athletes to enjoy skiing at other locations without interruption to family skiing. The programme is based at Porters Ski Area where we work closely with their team to develop a terrain park specifically for our riders, with a variety of rails, stall features and kickers up to 80 feet!
We are unique in NZ in that our team trains twice a week at our own purpose-built training facility. Our athletes have access to our coaches, trampolines, sprung floor, roll-in and foam pit allowing them to perfect their moves, improve gymnastic awareness and physical conditioning, Put skis or a snowboard on your feet and try your first back-flip (or any trick) into a foam pit.
The Academy runs twelve months of the year with a Summer Camp in Colorado through January and off snow training in our own purpose-built gym. It is open to any skier or snowboarder aged 4+ of a good intermediate level. So far our youngest is four and our oldest is 52. There are three teams: the General, Challenge and Elite. The Elite Team are our top six riders and they receive full sponsorship. This is a top-to-toe brand sponsorship not just a shop sponsorship. The brands themselves are watching; from this team it is possible to be chosen as an international team rider. The Challenge Team is for those who wish to challenge for an Elite Team position. The General Team is for those wanting to train who do not wish to compete or those aiming to join our Challenge Team. There are no minimum camps you must attend, join one or all. No experience is necessary.
We run 3-5 on-snow training camps a season (weather and snow dependant). These run from a Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon.
A typical day at camp:
8:45am – Meet in cafe and rider briefing
9:00am – Warm-up and goals
